KODO means big melody; it is a flowing and rhythmic style of massage performed almost like a dance that brings you back into a state of calm, balance and harmony. Immersive and multi-sensory, it is inspired by traditional Aboriginal healing. The knowledge of the KODO is derived from Aboriginal elder Anne Warren, a spiritual leader and medicine woman in her mob on the border or NSW and Victoria, known as Ya’ldt Midtung.
THE SMOKING RITUAL
The KODO experience begins with a smoking ritual. A specific blend of bush leaves is set alight in a traditional wooden coolamon – then smouldering – it is passed over and around your body to clear the energy in the room and create a sacred space for healing.
THE MASSAGE
You are then invited to choose one of three botanical oil blends, depending on your wellbeing needs on the day. The unique rhythmic KODO massage then melts away fatigue and tension, re-aligning energy flow and energising mind and body. Activation of pressure points and spiralling movements ground, uplift and deeply calm the senses. Rocks can be incorporated into this unique therapy, warmed to mimic the energy of the sun.
The KODO Massage can be enjoyed as part of The Grounding Ritual or The Awakening Ritual spa journeys. The Awakening Ritual is a seamless collection of six luxurious therapies to revitalise the whole being. This blissful four and a half hour journey is fully customised to your needs – you choose the botanical oil blend for the massage, the mineral-rich mud for the body wrap, and salts for the full-body scrub – depending on your needs on the day, for a profound sense of wellbeing.
“It is such an honour to perform the KODO treatment. It is just as grounding for us to give as it is for you to receive. The flow of the KODO is what most of us therapists fall in love with, while performing it we enter a meditative flow state of deep connection.” – Asha, BODHI Spa Trainer
