What causes hyperpigmentation, and how to correct it
Hyperpigmentation, also known as sun spots, age spots, dark spots, brown marks or the ‘mask of pregnancy’, is so common among Australian women, especially given our climate. We all have it, and it’s so easy to get. Most often caused by UV exposure over many years, anyone who’s spent any time at the beach – which is pretty much everyone in Western Australia – will have it. Other causes include environmental heat, hormone changes and injury- for example, when you pick a pimple and it leaves a brown scar that won’t go away. Diminishing hyperpigmentation and encouraging a more even skin tone, will give you your best skin at any age. So what can you do to correct hyperpigmentation, our Expert Facialist and Trainer Tegan Hall shares her tips.
1. You need patience and diligence to tackle pigmentation!
It’s taken a while for the skin damage to occur, so it will take a while to get rid of, but your skin will thank you for it.
2. To see real results you need a treatment plan carried out over three months.
Regular Hydromicrodermabrasion Facials – we call it the skin-perfector, will gently erase surface skin layers for visibly brighter and smoother skin.
3. Add LightSTIM LED Skincare Therapy to your regular facial.
Add a 20min *LightStim LED Skincare Therapy to your favourite BODHI facial, or enjoy it as a 30min stand-alone treatment. I’d also recommend using the hand-held LightSTIM daily, so that you can continue your treatment at home.
4. Add an active serum to your daily skincare routine.
The Mukti Vital A Elixir helps to fade dark spots and reduces pigmentation by increasing cellular turnover. The Mukti Vital B Elixir, with Vitamin B3, assists with preventing pigmentation and evens skin tone by inhibiting melanin transfer, and also supports skins natural barrier. *LightStim LED Therapy is available at BODHI Highgate and Cottesloe.
